FROGS vs Lilies Cook-off Rules

Each team will meet at their respective kitchens (FROGS at Bori's and Lilies at Mary's) on July 30th, 2010.  

They will then shop at any grocery store and purchase ingredients for three dishes; an appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert.  

Teams will be allowed to spend $75.  You may NOT exceed that total.

The teams may only use the ingredients they purchased that night for the cook-off with certain exclusions.

Exclusions:
  • Sugar
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Water
  • Milk
  • Oil/Butter/Margarine
  • Flour
  • Eggs
  • Soy Sauce
  • Rice
  • Spice cabinet items (i.e. paprika, cumin, oregano, etc.)
  • Hoison sauce/Sciracha/Oyster Sauce/other cultural sauces.
Other exclusions may apply.  The two teams must agree on the exclusions, however.  The two sides have a full list of products that may be used without purchase.  Please see Mary or Patrick for full details.

The teams must compile a list of all ingredients used in each dish, and then verify that all the ingredients used in that dish were purchased via the receipt(s), excluding the exclusions.

After purchasing the ingredients, teams may go back to their kitchens and prep the food, including marinating, chopping, proofing, and other essential preparation work.  However, NO COOKING is allowed!

A mystery person will select one ingredient that MUST be used in one dish and be a key element.  The mystery person will text Patrick and Lena the ingredient at 6pm MST Friday.

Cooking will start at 9am MST on July 31t.  

Teams will have 2 hours to cook.

Teams must then gather at the church property by 11:45am MST!

Once at the church property, teams may begin presenting their plates to the judges

A team of judges will consist of 2 men and 2 women and will be selected by the teams (FROGS will select 1 man and l woman, Lilies will select 1 man and 1 woman).  They will select from those present at the site.

Judges will critique the dishes and award points for each dish.
  • up to 10 points for taste
  • up to 10 points for originality
  • up to 5 points for presentation 
Team with the top overall score wins and takes home the golden spatula!
